About the atelier

A Romanian atelier, working for the world

Aaron Art is a family-led studio of more than two hundred artists, craftsmen and technicians dedicated to a single discipline: the making of monumental mosaic and stained glass, entirely by hand.

About Aaron Art — Romanian mosaic and stained glass atelier

A workshop rooted in Iași

The atelier is based in Iași, in the north-east of Romania, on Calea Chișinăului no. 32 — a full production workshop with dedicated halls for glass painting and firing, for mosaic cutting and laying, for metalwork, and for the assembly of large panels prior to shipment. Everything a project needs, from initial maquette to final installation, is produced under one roof.

From Iași we work with parishes, monasteries, architecture practices, interior designers, hotel developers and private collectors — in Romania and across the world. The location is not incidental: Moldavia has been a centre of ecclesiastical craft for six centuries, and the region still trains some of the finest icon painters, glass masters and stone carvers in Europe.

A team of over 200 artists

Aaron Art brings together more than two hundred people: iconographers, glass painters, mosaicists, chemists, metalworkers, structural engineers, and installation teams. The studio is organised in guilds — one for stained glass, one for mosaic, one for stone and metal — each led by a master with decades of practice. Every commission is followed from end to end by a project lead who is accountable to the client for the artistic and the technical result.

Training happens inside the workshop. Younger artists start alongside masters, work on ancillary elements for years before touching a main composition, and only sign their own work once the guild lead agrees. This is the reason our lead times are longer than those of a decorative manufacturer — and the reason our work is expected to last for centuries.

Tradition and invention

The vocabulary is Byzantine: gold-ground mosaic, Venetian smalti, hand-painted stained glass fired at 620 °C, tin-suture and lead-came assembly. The materials and the methods are the ones that have carried this tradition since Ravenna and Chora. At the same time, the atelier develops its own materials: our double-glazed mosaic, produced and patented in our workshops, adds durability and chromatic range that classical smalto alone cannot offer, and lets us work on facades and exteriors that would previously have been out of reach.

We work on churches, monasteries, cathedrals, private chapels, luxury residences, hotels, memorial parks and public buildings. In every project, we take responsibility for the full chain: consultation with the architect and — in ecclesiastical work — with the parish and the eparchy; iconographic programme; painted maquettes and 1:1 samples; production; transport; installation; and long-term maintenance.

International presence

Beyond Romania, Aaron Art has delivered commissions in Greece, Italy, Moldova, Scotland and Austria, and has received international recognition for both ecclesiastical and secular work. Whether the project is a cathedral apse in the Balkans, a boutique-hotel entrance hall in Central Europe, or a private chapel on a country estate, the studio ships, installs and warranties its work on site.
